Gold Standard
Rolf Schroeder General Contractors’ craftsmanship and responsiveness keep clients coming back, project after project
by Jenny Graham

When clients come to Rolf Schroeder General Contractors Inc. (RSGC) for home improvement work, they can rest easy with the knowledge that Rolf, as well as each and every one of his crew members, takes the company’s motto to heart.

“Our slogan is, ‘The first thing we build is trust,’” Rolf says. “This comes from the fact that we create a process that is as stress free as possible.”

Such trust is built quickly, as responses and meetings are held in the timeliest of fashions. Budget—both expectation and reality—is taken into serious account, and all projects are discussed in detail, from the demolition phase through the finishing touches.

“Over the last 30-plus years, the company has been built around professionalism, reputation, integrity, dedication and experience,” Rolf says of his company, which specializes in kitchens, bathrooms and custom home remodeling.

“Expectations are set early to help ensure each client has the most comfortable experience as possible,” says Derek Schroeder, Rolf’s son and project manager at RSGC. “Any project you do, big or small, is in some way disruptive to their daily lives, but being up front and communicating from day one helps ease the process and create a satisfying, quality final product.”

The father-and-son contracting company also works to build trust with clients by fostering open lines of communication between clients and the RSGC team.

“We treat you like you are family, and we care for your home like it is our own,” Rolf says. “The crucial difference and belief for our success and great reputation is the pride we take in treating every client individually, and making them feel as [if they are] a part of our family.”

One family, the Alvarezes of Doylestown, who hired RSGC on three separate projects, agrees. “We trust Rolf and his team so much so that in our last project, we went on a vacation and left him and his team with full access to our home while they completed the project. We were very pleased to find the project completed and in showroom condition upon our return,” says Mr. Alvarez.

The Alvarezes initially hired RSGC to remodel a master bath and a hallway bathroom, and the company made such a positive impression on the family that they did not hesitate to hire the firm back for subsequent projects.

“We were delighted with the quality and thoroughness of [Rolf’s] work,” Mr. Alvarez says. “When we were considering a total remodeling of our kitchen and other areas of the first floor, we hired him again. Of all contractors and remodelers we considered, Rolf was the most prepared and detailed in his proposal. He took his time to ensure we understood every step of the process and the work they would do. There are no … surprises in his proposals.

“We have received many compliments on all three remodeling projects and are very satisfied,” he continues. “Rolf is a very skilled professional who takes tremendous pride in the quality of his work and the satisfaction of his customers. We highly recommend Rolf Schroeder General Contractors.”

Like the Alvarez family, the Coapman family of Northampton Township gave RSGC excellent reviews. “Rolf and the entire Rolf Schroeder General Contractor team turned our dated kitchen and dining room into a phenomenal cooking, eating and gathering place,” Mr. Coapman says. “His assistance from the initial design phase, to the final delivery, was appreciated. Everything was done 100 percent on time and within budget.”

RSGC completed three projects for the Schink family of Holland: master and main bath renovations, and a major kitchen/family room renovation. “We were extremely pleased with the craftsmanship shown by his employees and his subcontractors,” Mr. Schink says. “Rolf’s goal is to make sure his customers are happy; he will work with you until you are completely satisfied. I would absolutely use Rolf for any future project and definitely recommend Rolf to anyone looking for an honest, capable and knowledgeable contractor.”

“Everything was done on time, as promised,” adds Mr. Dorsch of Blue Bell, who felt like the RSGC staff was easy to work with and the pricing was transparent.

The Micheners of Ivyland also have equally positive things to say about RSGC, which remodeled the family’s kitchen. “Years later, we continue to sit here on a daily basis and admire [the] fine craftsmanship,” Mr. Michener says.

Derek, who has worked at least part-time for the company since learning the trade from his father at the age of 14, explains that such rave reviews from clients provide the backbone of their contracting business.

“The majority of our business is through repeat and referral projects,” Derek says. “In recent years, since the locally nominated recognitions and awards have grown popular, it has become another way our clients voice their pleasure and trust in our company—by letting others know that they think we are the best in Bucks and Montgomery counties.”

RSGC has certainly received its share of peer recognition to back up its reputation. In the past year alone, the company has earned a number of substantial accolades. This includes having been named among Remodeling magazine’s Big50 top national remodeling companies, as well as being recognized with The Big50 Service Excellence Award. These commendations were determined via surveys by an impartial third-party customer-satisfaction polling company, GuildQuality, which is based in Atlanta.

The company has also been recognized by the local chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) as 2014 Bucks-Mont Contractor of the Year for residential exteriors under $100,000; 2014 Regional Contractor of the Year for residential exteriors under $100,000; and 2014 Bucks-Mont Contractor of the Year for residential kitchens between $80,001 and $120,000. In fact, RSGC has won nine Contractor of the Year awards in four years from NARI.

The team sees such continued success for a number of reasons. One is an always growing array of services, including interior design, handyman service and general contracting referral. Another is education. Rolf and Derek both hold three NARI professional certifications: Certified Remodeler; Certified Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeler; and Universal Design Certified Professional. They are also members of the National Kitchen and Bath Association, a trade organization that promotes professionalism in the kitchen-and-bath industry.

A large part of the success stems from RSGC’s knowledge that no two clients’ visions are identical. “Besides bringing the highest level of knowledge, experience, quality, craftsmanship and service to each and every project, we believe that every client is different and lives a different personal lifestyle,” says Rolf. “This is why every project is designed and built uniquely for them with collaborations on ideas, personalities, inspirations and dreams.”
